Ah, good to hear that A Breath of Snow and Ashes is worth it. I still have that book on CD sitting on a shelf above my desk looking as intimidating as ever! But I have a long four day drive ahead of me, so that may be the perfect time to listen!

Excellent that you got a chance to meet DG. And Gerard Butler. Hmmm. He was SUCH a hunk in 300. They'd need to tone those abs down just a bit for Jamie. hahaha.

Oh Man I love all these books! The first three, Outlander, Dragonfly in Amber, and Voyager were the reason I went to Scotland, lol!

I love the whole series and have them signed by DG. I heard her give a talk a few years ago near Seattle and she said the hardest part about a movie would be casting Jamie (I think so too!) but she was kind of preferential toward Gerard Butler. I could see him as Jamie (picture him in The 300, but with reddish hair). And I always thought the actress who played the Scottish queen in the movie "Elizabeth" (tell your queen not to send boys to die for England!) was the epitome of Claire.

Keira Knightly? No way. To young, too thin. Jamie loves Claire's round plump arse, after all!

I think if you have read all the books, A Breath of Snow and Ashes is definitely worth the read. It ties up all the loose ends and ends the series. I doubt there will be another book, unless it's a spinoff, like the Lord John Grey book.

Welcome to Historic Fiction. I think we've all been a bit sidetracked these days--perhaps all reading voraciously. I agree, my enthusiasm started to fade as the series progressed. I have the book on CD for the A Breath of Snow and Ashes, and I haven't yet had the heart to listen to it. It seems a bit intimidating. Anybody else read that last one? Is it worth the slog?

New here and it looks like not many threads...but my love for historical fiction is great enough I'll probably be keeping tabs on anything here.
The Oulander series I think started great. Was a little fantasy, a little romance with a pretty great historical background. Somewhere around book 4 i became less enthused. It almost seemed like the author had told the story she wanted but had to continue due to popularity of the series. Kinda "jumped the shark".
But the first 3 books were well worth the read.

Casting would be a nightmare - I greatly prefer reading and re-reading the books in order. I've just exposed my mom to the Outlander books. She's ready to read book 4.

I've read some of them. I really enjoyed them. They veered a little far onto the romance side of historic, but they were still engaging. It'll be interesting to see the movie(s). Paul Bettany as Jamie? Hmmm. I have a harder time with him than Kiera.

Who has read these books and what do you think of them? I was bowled over by them. I have read three, so far. I believe that there are six. I hear that there will be a movie starring Paul Bettany and Kiera Knightly as the lead characters. I don't see Kiera Knightly in that role. She's too young and too pretty. What do you think?
